A suspect is now dead after a shooting at Ohio State University. Several people have been taken to the hospital with injuries. News channels are reporting that the shooting took place at Watts Hall. This is the school’s material science and engineering building.

Ohio State has recently released a statement on the unfortunate events that happened today saying,

Ohio State University Police and local law enforcement continue to respond to a public safety incident on Ohio State’s campus. A suspect has been shot and reported deceased. Victim injuries include stab wounds, injury by motor vehicle and other injuries that are being evaluated. At the recommendation of law enforcement, campus alerts for shelter in place have been lifted. Campus remains open during the continued investigation, although classes have been canceled for the remainder of the day. Facts are still being verified. We will hold a media briefing as soon as we are able. The university will continue to share information through Buckeye Alert and emergency.osu.edu. Our top priority remains the safety and security of our campus community. Our thoughts and prayers are with those injured and their families.

ABC 2 News tweeted,

Report: One dead, at least 7 injured in the active shooting situation at Watts Hall on Ohio State campus

NBC4 reported that nine people have been taken to the hospital. One person is in critical condition while the other eight are in stable condition. The University’s Emergency Management Twitter account posted many tweets about the shooter saying,

Buckeye Alert: Active Shooter on campus. Run Hide Fight. Watts Hall. 19th and College.

Buckeye Alert: Continue to shelter in place. Avoid area of College. More information to follow.

Buckeye Alert: Continue to shelter in place in north campus area. Follow directions of Police on scene.

Buckeye Alert: Continue to shelter in place. Wait for Police officers directions. Please contact Police / 9-1-1 only if you have information

It was also reported that a professor told the news station that someone he knows in the building was “slashed” with a machete. This has not yet been confirmed by police.

This is so sad. Kids cant even go to school and learn without fearing for their lives.
