Police in New Orleans just released 54 year old Ronald Gasser, the man who shot and killed former NFL player Joe McKnight yesterday. As of now, he has not been charged with any crime, although that could still change.

I’m still sick to my stomach that this guy gets to walk for now because it makes no sense. Police have said McKnight had no weapon and witnesses at the scene claim McKnight was actually out of his car apologizing to Gasser when he just opened fire. Witnesses further said that after McKnight fell to the ground, Gasser stood over him and yelled “I told you not to f*ck with me”, before firing another shot. There is no way in hell that this is any type of self defense so there is no reason why he should not be under arrest right now.

TMZ spoke with a rep who said that the 54-year-old Ronald Gasser, a white male, was questioned and released “sometime overnight” after officials believed they had no reason to hold him any longer.

The Sheriff’s Dept. says Gasser “definitely” shot the ex-NFL running back but there are “questions about the circumstances surrounding what led up to it.”

The rep tells us the investigation is still very much open and the case could go to the grand jury or the district attorney, which will decide whether or not charges should be filed.

It all seems like a road rage incident gone extremely bad but regardless of what happened to set it off, it is clear Gasser shot an unarmed man who was trying to diffuse the situation. He needs to pay for his actions. We will update this when more information becomes available.
