Last Sunday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers surprisingly defeated the Seattle Seahawks by a score of 14-5 in what was a pretty ugly game. According to Bucs center Joe Hawley, the game was even uglier than it looked as he claimed a member of the Seattle defense spit directly in his face after a play was over.

Hawley has his own radio show in the Tampa area and on Thursday he revealed what happened last week in regards to the spitting incident. Not sure why he waited five days after to mention it but he seems to infer that Jarran Reed of Seattle is the one who spit but he isn’t 100% sure.

“Yeah, I think that’s who it was,” Hawley said. “They were hitting me late and then one guy got up, and when I came up all fired up, he actually spit in my face after one of the plays. And that really got me fired up because I just don’t think that should be a part of the game at all.”

He then reiterated that he wasn’t sure about Reed. He explained when the play happened, which involved Hawley having to be held back by others but at the time, viewers at home had no idea why he was trying to go after players.

“I mean, it’s one thing thing [to be] pushing, shouting, yelling. But as soon as he spit in my face, I was pretty fired up about that,” Hawley said. “He’s a young guy. I guess he just—that’s not the way to do it.” There were no flags thrown during their skirmish.

Both teams are in playoff contention at the moment so it’s not unrealistic to wonder if they will face each other again but it sounds like it would certainly be interesting.
