Some football fans just do not want Michael Vick to be able to move on from his dog fighting past. Vick, who was one of the most exciting players to watch in the history of the NFL at his peak, is scheduled to be honored this Sunday by the Atlanta Falcons when they take on the New Orleans Saints. However there are thousands of fans who don’t want it to happen and have created a petition to stop it.
A petition on Change.org was created to stop the Falcons from inviting him to the game. As of earlier today, the petition had 8,000 signatures in less than 24 hours.
“By inviting Michael Vick to participate in a ceremony on Sunday, the Falcons are honoring a convicted dogfighter who profited from cruelty to animals for years,” the page reads. “Please sign this petition and let the Falcons know that NFL fans do not support Vick and do not condone his actions.”
We all know how his tenure in Atlanta ended and even though Vick paid his debts and has been a great guy by all accounts since, these fools just don’t want him to put it behind him. There is no reason for any fan to continue hating Vick like this for bad decisions he made roughly a decade ago. I surely hope the team ignores the petition.
Just earlier this month, Vick said he wanted to retire as a member of the Falcons. “With the city, the respect and the love was all there. It was genuine. When I think about my career and what I’m identified with, it is the Atlanta Falcons,” he said. “Maybe there are some conversations that need to be had. I look forward to it because that’s what’s dear in my heart. I’m just being honest and candid.”

Michael Vick is a poor excuse as a man and as a human being. He was slapped on the wrist for his heinous acts against innocent, defenseless animals. He should never have been allowed to have another pet, I don’t care how many children he has and would have been deprived of that joy. The animals he tortured and savagely murdered never knew any joy. He knew the difference between right and wrong, but that didn’t stop him. He will never be forgiven by those of us who respect and love animals, by those of us who rescue and rehabilitate animals from the horror and terror of abusive humans, he will never be forgiven. Michael Vick should never have been allowed to play Pro-Football again. Kids look up to players and he sure isn’t a shining example of a human being. Too bad no one beat and tortured him the same way. Set the example.
Why is this man a role model? Why should this individual be honored? What exactly is it that this man has accomplished that has made him a humanitarian, feats that he has accomplished above and beyond what he was PAID to do on the field? This man and 2 other individuals maliciously and with ill intent brutalized animals (Per Federal Indictment) “In or about April 2007, PEACE, PHILLIPS, and VICK executed approximately 8 dogs that did not perform well in ‘testing’ sessions … by various methods, including hanging, drowning, and slamming at least one dog’s body to the ground.” Do you realize that this is the behavior of serial killers when they start out? Since when does life mean less if it has 4 legs than if it has 2? This world is so filled with hypocrisy, sports figures that rape, assault and kill but because of the name those of us that are your average citizen are supposed to admire and honor?
