General David Petraeus enters into plea deal after leaking classified information to his mistress, Paula Broadwell. The news comes up right before the once possible candidate for presidency’s third-year anniversary of resignation for the stunt.

Petraeus plead guilty to the one misdemeanor charge of unauthorized removal and retention of classified material in order to avoid a long and embarrassing trial. While the judge who will hear the plea is not bound by the agreement, prosecutors are recommending two years probation, $40,000 fine and no prison time.

The criminal complaint, filed Tuesday in the United States District Court for the Western District of North Carolina’s Charlotte Division, charges Petraeus with one count of unauthorized removal and retention of classified material.

Former Army Reserve officer Broadwell, who was in the process of writing a book, was given eight binders of classified material, also known as ‘black books’. The black books were filled with code words, spy names and briefings from President Obama.

All eight books “collectively contained classified information regarding the identifies of covert officers, war strategy, intelligence capabilities and mechanisms, diplomatic discussions, quotes and deliberative discussions from high-level National Security Council meetings… and discussions with the president of the United States.”

The wild thing, Petraeus still has security clearance with the FBI. Once the judge hears his plea, he/she may let him keep or he/she may not.
