(Photos + Videos) Diversity Makes A Comeback At SAG And Sundance Awards This Weekend

Diversity for sure was at the SAG and Sundance Awards this weekend. Forget the Oscars! Queen Latifah, Uzo Aduba, Viola Davis and Idris Elba were all able to receive awards for their accomplishments Saturday. “The Birth of a Nation,” is a drama about Nat Turner’s slave rebellion. This film was for sure the talk of the Sundance Awards as Nate Parker received recognition for his part in the film.

(Video) Viola Davis Lets Everyone Know That Diversity Is Not A Trending Topic As She Accepts Her SAG Award

Congratulations to Viola Davis for walking away with a 2016 SAG Award. This award season has sparked quite the controversy over the all white slate of acting nominees at this year’s Academy Awards but black actors came hard at the 2016 SAG Awards Saturday night. Idris Elba walked away with two SAG’s and is the first person to ever do so and Queen Latifah snagged her third SAG for her role in Bessie. Check out the rest of the story after the jump.

Time For Change: The Oscars Make History To Increase Diversity

The time for change is upon us. After much uproar which shouldn’t have even been necessary in the first place, The Academy is switching up their policies to avoid any racial issues again with new voting rules. History is in the making as we read. Hit the jump.

Motion Picture Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs Responds To Oscars’ Diversity Criticism

After the nominees for the 2016 Academy Awards were announced last week, many were shocked and saddened to see that almost no diversity was to be found in the nominations, and huge films like Straight Outta Compton, Concussion and more were completely left out. Following calls for a boycott of the Oscars from the likes of Jada Pinkett-Smith, Spike Lee and more, The President of the Motion Picture Academy (above) has issued a positive (and hopefully true) response. “I would like to acknowledge the wonderful work of this year’s nominees,” Cheryl Boone Isaacs began. “While we celebrate their extraordinary achievements, I am both heartbroken and frustrated about the lack of inclusion…” Hit the gallery for the full statement. Do you think this will bring on the change that needs to happen?

(Photos) NBA: Magic Johnson Calls Out The Oscars Over Lack Of Diversity With The Nominees

Magic Johnson usually doesn’t hesitate to speak his mind and today was no different. There was an uproar after the nominees for the Oscar’s were released and pretty much every single nominee was a white actor or actress. There were plenty of films this year that had African-Americans in the lead roles that could have snagged a nomination or two but in the end it didn’t go down like that. Magic was quick to point out which actors and movies should have been nominated and I don’t think most people would disagree with him. Check out the gallery to see what he said and let us know what you think.
