Indie Music Spotlight: Nino Khayyam – BEEN TRILL

“Been Trill,” is full on solid video with depth that expresses the despair of the ghetto, yet succumbs to mainstream rap’s fetish for flashy & r&b; sonics. Every transcendent moment is immediately followed by an embarrassing travesty – from lines like “no food in the fridge rap to dad left mom he ain’t come back.” The video ends with a coming soon for Look Like – Dirty Cops while being a bit apprehensive about the topic – the visual is no less stunning then the graphic news reels we have seen in the last year gripping our nation. In keeping with the spirit of NWA’s “F Da Police” & Ice T’s “Cop Killer” – this snippet is a revolutionary cry from the hood that often falls on deaf ears. The trailer just mirrors the reality of the black man’s existence in America.
