YouTube To Break Into Live Event Streaming
B&C has reported that YouTube, owned by Google, has inked a deal that will bring a ton of basketball attention their way. They’ve signed a deal with NBA D-League to stream 350 of the 400 regular season games. Realizing they couldn’t compete with wild TV mainstream sports deals, they’re goal is to play a complementary role to large sports leagues. This gives smaller associations an outlet for distribution. The infamous Jeremy Lin was found in the D-League, along with the 20% of NBA players with a D-League past. NBA is YouTube’s most popular of all the professional sports leagues, backed by their 960 million views, so it’s no surprise that they would use them as their first endeavor into Live event streaming.
