(Video) NBA: Carmelo Anthony Does Emotional Interview After Winning 3rd & Final Gold Medal

Team USA won its third straight gold medal after destroying Serbia 96-66 in the men’s basketball Finals at the 2016 Rio Olympics.  It was also a record three gold medals for Carmelo Anthony as he played in his record fourth Olympics; he was the first men’s basketball player to achieve each feat.  He’s also Team USA’s all-time leader in points, games played and rebounds.  Anthony tried to hold back tears as he did an interview with Rosalyn Gold-Onwude and announced it was his final Olympics.

NBA: Carmelo Anthony Says an NBA Championship & Olympic Gold Medal are Pretty Much the Same

Carmelo Anthony has become the elder statesman and leader of the Team USA’s mens basketball team for the 2016 Rio Olympics.  Anthony is the only player in U.S men’s basketball history to compete in four Olympics.  He just passed Michael Jordan to become the United States’ third all-time leading scorer in the Olympics, behind David Robinson and LeBron James.  Anthony has six All-NBA selections, nine All-Star Game appearances, and a scoring title to add to his three Olympic gold medals but there’s one thing noticeably missing from his Hall of Fame resume, an NBA championship.  It’s obvious the Knicks aren’t heading for one in the near future but Anthony is not only optimistic, he’s at peace.

With everything going on in Rio in terms of health and safety, injuries, and some players just wanting rest, a lot of the players from the 2012 U.S. Men’s basketball team did not return for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  It’s still quite a roster however that should definitely still be able to make some noise.

The 10,500 athletes at next year’s Olympics will feel first-hand the deep budget cuts buffeting the Rio de Janeiro Games: They won’t have air conditioning in their bedrooms unless someone pays for it.
