NBA: Carmelo on Amare Leaving: “One of the main reasons I’m a New York Knick today was because of him”

During the NBA All-Star game on Sunday night, Frank Isola of the New York Daily News dropped a bombshell that Amar’e Stoudemire and the New York Knicks reached a buyout agreement.  It was reported that the decision would come during the All-Star break but the timing was still shocking as it happened during the game.  It left Carmelo Anthony very vulnerable as he knew he would face a slew of reporters from all over the country in town for All-Star and they all would have one topic to now ask him about.

Amar’e Stoudemire’s turbulent time with the New York Knicks is finally over.  Stoudemire, who was in the final season of a five-year, $99.7 million contract, reached a buy out agreement with the Knicks and intends to sign with a team in playoff contention after clearing waivers.  There were earlier reports that the Golden State Warriors are interested in signing in STAT but recent reports have debunked that.  Still there are other big teams reportedly interested in signing Amar’e.

NBA: Report, Amar’e Stoudemire Could Wind Up With Mavericks If Knicks Offer Buyout

Amar’e Stoudemire’s career with the Knicks hasn’t worked out as planned, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t given us everything he has had. Injuries have been a constant issue for him almost since arriving, but he always showed he was a warrior on the court when he could go. Because this season is obviously already long over for New York and it it is the final year of his contract, a buyout would make sense so he could try and end this season with a contender. For his part it sounds like he would consider it.

As I said before, Phil Jackson and the New York Knicks are cleaning house.  They traded JR Smith and Iman Shumpert, released Samuel Dalembert, are trying to trade Jose Calderon and Andrea Bargnani and now they’ve discussed the possibility of buying out Amar’e Stoudemire.
