Behind The Lyrics: Troy Ave Addresses Irving Plaza Shooting On New Mixtape

Troy Ave is currently locked up without bail, facing murder charges for the shooting that went down at Irving Plaza late last month. As he continues to declare his innocence, the Brooklyn rapper released a project of music he’d recorded before the incident. Originally titled Real vs. Fake, Troy has fittingly renamed the 12-track project to Free Troy Ave, and opens it with a freestyle that he did over the phone from jail. On it, he addresses the shooting, as well as his feelings about his now-deceased friend, Banga.
