NFL: New Book Reveals Bears Great Walter Payton Used Drugs & Talked Suicide

An excerpt of “Sweetness: The Enigmatic Life of Walter Payton,” by Jeff Pearlman will appear in the Oct. 3 issue of Sports Illustrated and describes the Hall of Famer as suicidal, abusing pain medication and dealing with a crumbling family situation.


NFL: Man Charged With Rape At NFL Player’s Home

Posted by Sabrina B. @gametimegirl A man has been charged with raping a woman at the Massachusetts home of Chicago Bears safety Brandon Meriweather, The Sun Chronicle reported Tuesday. Meriweather, who was released unexpectedly by the New England Patriots at the end of training camp after starting for the past four seasons, has not been charged in the case and it is unclear from the report whether he was present at the time.

NFL: Chicago Bears Refuse To Accept New NFL Rule & Ignore It In Preseason Game

Posted by Sabrina B. @gametimegirl The Chicago Bears were one of six NFL teams that reportedly voted against the new rule moving kickoffs to the 35-yard line of the team doing the kicking. The rule, which moves the ball up from the 30-yard line and should cause more touchbacks and fewer exciting returns, was implemented by the league’s Competition Committee at the owners meetings in March as a move to improve player safety. The thought was that those exciting returns also involve too many high-speed collisions, but the Bears weren’t buying it.
