(Photo) ‘The New Yorker’ Celebrate Gay Marriage With Bert & Ernie On The Cover!

Many people don’t realize that this past week, we lived through a historic moment when the Supreme Court ruled on gay marriage. To celebrate the occasion, ‘The New Yorker’ thought it would be best to put Bert and Ernie from “Sesame Street” on the cover. Bert and Ernie have been labeled as a gay couple for years now. I personally don’t understand why they have been labeled as gay, but that’s just me. I’m curious to see if “Sesame Street” is going to announce the friends as gay since the show does try to cater to all different situations or add gay characters.  See the cover in the gallery.

Sesame Street Rejects Petition For A Bert And Ernie Wedding, They Are Friends And Nothing More

4,500 Signatures on a Campaign to Have Bert and Ernie Get Married on Sesame Street

I shall take my Twitter rant about this topic over to IFWT. This has me LIVID!! Let me be clear that this is solely MY opinion, by the way, not that of the entire blog. Let me also make it clear that I am 100 THOUSAND percent all for gay rights. I have many gay and lesbian friends, I don’t think they’re any different than anyone else but THIS IS RIDICULOUS! “Let us teach tolerance of those that are different,” the petition’s description reads. “Let Sesame Street and PBS Kids be a big part in saving many worthy lives.” Why should Sesame’s demographic…which is 2 to 5 year olds…be seeing things like that? Are they then going to think that any 2 males that live together are an item??? This will do nothing but confuse young, impressionable minds. Continue after the jump. Marisa Mendez
