(Video) #BigPunForever: 14 Years Later, Big Pun Finally Gets A Street Sign Named After Him

Cause Latins going platinum was destined to come! In February of 2010, the Bronx Community Board ruled to deny any type of street dedication to the legendary rapper Big Pun due to his “violent” lyrics and “constant drug references.” However, just a few days after the 14th anniversary of his death on February 7th, a few BX residents took it upon themselves to create their own street dedicated to the late Christopher Rios on 163rd street and Rodgers place in the Bronx. The “Big Pun Place” street sign was put up on the same corner of Pun’s huge mural. Check it out below.

(Videos) IFWT Celebrates The 15th Anniversary Of Big Pun’s Capital Punishment

Today marks the 15th anniversary of the release of Big Pun’s debut and classic album, Capital Punishment. There’s no doubting that this album set the tone for Pun’s short but legendary career. The album peaked at #5 Billboard 200 charts and #1 on the Top R&B Albums chart for two weeks, was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 1999 Grammys, and was the first Latin hip hop record to go platinum. (Photos) Fat Joe Shares Classic Photos Of Big Pun On His Birthday

Fat Joe not only was a brother to Big Pun, but he was also a huge part of Pun’s success. Pun first appeared on Joe’s second album, Jealous One’s Envy and quickly became a part of Joe’s group, Terror Squad. The two became inseparable and developed a strong bond in life and musically, even getting arrested together back in ’98. Since Pun’s death in 2000, Fat Joe helped out Pun’s wife and children and continues to rep for Pun. Today, Fat Joe took to his Twitter account to tweet a message to his fallen brother and share some classic photos that fans sent him. Check out the accompanying gallery. RIP, Big Pun! Julie A.
