IFWT Celebrates Black History Month: Honoring Jim Brown

Jim Brown is an American former professional football player who has also made his mark as an actor. He is best known for his exceptional and record-setting nine-year career as a running back for the NFL Cleveland Browns from 1957 to 1965. In 2002, he was named by Sporting News as the greatest professional football player ever. He is considered to be one of the greatest professional athletes the U.S. has ever produced. IFWT Celebrates Black History Month: Honoring Daniel James, Jr.

To celebrate Black History Month, InFlexWeTrust will be honoring influential members of Black history daily throughout the month. Today, we are honoring the life of Daniel James Jr. Daniel “Chappie” James Jr., born in 1902, became the first African American to reach the four-star general rank while serving in the United States Air Force in 1975. In 1942, James graduated from the Tuskegee Institute with a degree in physical education. Although he remained at Tuskegee after graduation, he did not see combat action until the Korean War. James would go on to countless awards before passing away after a heart-attack, just three weeks after his air force retirement. Read more about Daniel James, Jr and his contributions below.


IFWT Celebrates Black History Month: Honoring Muhammad Ali

To celebrate Black History Month, InFlexWeTrust will be honoring influential members of Black history daily throughout the month. Today, we are honoring Muhammad Ali. Ali was born Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr., on January 17, 1942. Before going on to be the boxing legend and cultural icon that he is, Ali was a philanthropist and social activist. Ali made his professional boxing debut on October 29, 1960, winning a six-round decision over Tunney Hunsaker. Between 1960-1963 he was able to have a record of 19-0 with 15 wins by knockout. The boxer joined the Nation of Islam in 1964, promoting his name change. After refusing to join the draft, Ali was arrested and found guilty on draft evasion charges, he was stripped of his boxing title, and his boxing license was suspended until his appeal went to the Supreme Court. His most infamous matches were against his rival Joe Frazier and are still considered the greatest matches of all time. Read more about his life and contributions below.


IFWT Celebrates Black History Month: W.E.B. Du Bois

To celebrate Black History Month, InFlexWeTrust will be honoring influential members of Black history daily throughout the month. Today, we are honoring W.E.B. Du Bois. William Edward Burghardt “W. E. B.” Du Bois was a historian, American sociologist, civil rights activist, author, editor and Pan-Africanist. When he graduated from Harvard, Du Bois became the first African American to receive a doctorate degree. Before becoming on of the founders of the NAACP in 1909, he was a history, sociology and economics professor at Atlanta University. Du Bois fought against lynching, Jim Crow laws, and discrimination in education and employment. Read more about W.E.B. Du Bois and his Black History contributions below.

IFWT Celebrates Black History Month: Honoring Arthur Ashe

Today, we honor record-breaking tennis player Arthur Ashe. He was the first black player ever selected to the United States Davis Cup team and the only black man to ever win the singles title at Wimbledon, the US Open, or Australian Open.
