NBA: Julius Randle Defends His Play After Byron Scott Calls Him Immature For Being Upset Over Benching

If the Los Angeles Lakers are trying to tank then hiring and keeping Byron Scott was the right move because things are pretty ridiculous over there.  His qualms with rookie DeAngelo Russell and his bizarre benching have been well documented but now the issue is with Julius Randle.

NBA: Byron Scott Reveals Kobe Told Him He Was Going To Retire In The Middle Of A Game

Yesterday I wrote about how Dwyane Wade was likely the first person outside Kobe’s family to know he was going to retire at the end of this season. He told him back in early November, way before Kobe penned his letter for The Players Tribune, in which he told the world he was retiring. As it turns out, his coach Byron Scott also found out before the rest of us (as you would expect) but it came in a very surprising fashion.

(Video) NBA: Lakers Coach Byron Scott is a Total Kobe Bryant Fanboy

Los Angeles Lakers coach Byron Scott is totally inept and is basically on borrowed time.  Scott often contradicts himself, the only thing that remains constant is his adoration for Kobe Bryant.  The Black Mamba has been struggling with his shot this season but it hasn’t stopped him from taking majority of the attempts on the team.  Scott is counting on Kobe to lead the team’s ball movement efforts, something even Kobe found amusing. At practice Monday, Scott was asked how Kobe’s penchant for isolation hoops was damaging the Lakers ball movement plans; his answer?  Basically Kobe is Kobe which means he can do whatever he wants.

Byron Scott’s divorce is officially final but he’s not exactly a single man.  The judge granted his divorce from his wife of 29 years, Anita Scott, but he has a girlfriend named Cecilia Gutierrez.

NBA: Byron Scott Goes In on the Lakers Again: I think they’d end up shooting me in the back in a fox hole

The only player Lakers coach Byron Scott has consistently talked positively about is Kobe Bryant.  As for the rest of the team? Scott has been merciless, publicly criticizing them, calling them “soft” and telling them they need to “man up”.  Nick Young is often the player in Scott’s crosshairs recently saying that Young is a “home run- or a strikeout-type guy on the offensive end” and needs to “grow as a basketball player”.  Young says he’s used to Scott’s criticism and he takes it with a grain of salt but I wonder how the rest of the team will feel about Scott’s latest comments.

NBA: Byron Scott on Jason Kidd: “He was kind of known as being an a**hole”

Byron Scott was the coach of the New Jersey Nets for three-and-a-half seasons from 2000-2004.  He helped guide the team to two trips to the NBA Finals and on that team was Jason Kidd.  Scott was fired midseason in January 2004 and one of the reported reasons was an issue with Kidd, who at the time was the team’s most prominent star player.  Fast forward a decade and the relationship remains cordial, but with the Lakers in Milwaukee to take on the Bucks, Byron Scott on Jason Kidd was open and honest about the way things currently stand.
