Boxing: Money Mayweather, Fight With Alvarez Already Breaking Records
This huge fight is still over 2 months away, but that isn’t stopping it from breaking records months ahead of time. Tickets for the September 14th fight went on sale this week and completely sold out in less than 24 hours. The total number from ticket sales will be at least $18,647,000, which itself is a new record for a fight in Vegas, but that number will actually go up once the MGM figures out how many comps were given out for the fight. It has not even been a week since Floyd Mayweather Jr. completely dominated Robert Guerrero in Las Vegas, but that doesn’t mean it is time to relax. Floyd already has his next fight scheduled for September 14th at the MGM Grand once again. All he needs is an opponent, and from the sound of things, it is beginning to seem more and more like it will be Canelo Alvarez. Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, who promotes Alvarez, and works with Floyd on a fight by fight basis said he is working very hard to make the fight a reality. So we may finally have an opponent for Floyd. His name? Canelo Alvarez. Alvarez posted on his facebook earlier today that they are finalizing the deal for the May 4th fight. This will be the first mega fight for Alvarez, who has been buzzing throughout the boxing world for a while now. I am sure Mayweather will be the one getting most of the money from the fight, but at least Alvarez is a decent challenger. Although I do not think Floyd will have any problem with him.
