For his first big action as New York Knicks president, Phil Jackson traded Tyson Chandler to the Dallas Mavericks.  Carmelo Anthony decided to stay with the Knicks and signed a five-year, $124 million contract.  The Mavericks are currently 19-8 while the Knicks have the worst start in franchise history at 5-22.  Chandler looks happier than ever while Anthony is showing visible frustration.  Chandler says he feels sorry for his former teammate.

The Mavericks won a 132-129 double-overtime thriller in Chicago on Tuesday, but the Bulls probably feel like they should have won it in regulation.  Leading by three, Kirk Hinrich fouled Monta Ellis behind the three-point line with 1.2 seconds remaining. It’s the smart play, allowing two free throws instead of a potentially game-tying shot — provided the foul is committed on the floor before a shot can be attempted.  Hinrich waited too long, however, and Ellis was able to get into his shooting motion as he was fouled. The result was three free throws, and Ellis sank them all to force the first of two overtime sessions.

Whether he’s trying to pass Michael Jordan or just trying to help the Lakers win, Kobe Bryant is letting off shots like he has a machine gun.  Unfortunately a lot of the shots aren’t falling.  Though the Mavericks beat the Lakers 140-106, during the second quarter the game was a lot closer.  The Mavericks were up by less than 10, Kobe had possession and the opportunity to further close in on the lead when he attempted a 34-foot three attempt that ended up being an airball.  What made things worse is that there was five seconds left on the shot clock so he could’ve gotten closer instead of attempting a long three.

On Tuesday night Dirk Nowitzki surpassed Hakeem Olajuwon to become the NBA’s all-time leading international scorer and ninth overall.  That same night, his new teammate Chandler Parsons’ hit five three-pointers as the Mavericks beat the Kings 106-98.  Now either the Starbucks barista just saw a tall white guy and assumed it was Dirk or Chandler decided to pay homage to his childhood idol after a big game.
