BET Announces Sheila E, The Roots, D’Angelo + More For BET Awards Prince Tribute

BET will pay tribute to the late Prince at the 2016 BET Awards this year, following his untimely passing in April. Many were upset at Madonna’s attempt to honor her friend at the Billboard Music Awards last month, and following that show, BET promised to deliver a much better one. So far, Sheila E., The Roots, D’Angelo and Janelle Monae have been announced as performers for BET, with more to follow. Be sure to tune in on Sunday, June 26.

Jason Derulo was recently criticized for the music video for his new song, ‘Naked.’ The video shares a pretty similar vibe to R&B singer D’Angelo’s 2000 hit ‘How Does It Feel.’ TMZ caught up with Derulo at LAX and asked him flat-out was he trying to copy cat, D’Angelo’s shirtless signature, but according to Jason he was simply inspired by D’Angelo. In honor of Eric Garner and Trayvon Martin, both whom which were killed unlawfully, the R&B heartthrob had his backups rock a black hoodie with the words “I can’t breathe” on it, furthering the importance of the #BlackLivesMatter campaign.
