“#OscarsSoWhite… Again,” is the phrase Spike Lee used to open up his critical attack on the Academy. In a strategically planned Instagram rant, Lee revealed he will be joining other actors like Jada Pinkett Smith and boycotting this year’s Oscars. The awards have been under fire since early last week, when the nominations were revealed and proved that once again black actors and films have been overlooked. Read more below.

First off lets say happy birthday to one of the most influential people that helped lead the civil rights movement. Today is Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday and he would have been 87 years old today. The Robins Air Force Base in Georgia has everyone giving them the side eyes this week for advertising their “Fun Shoot” with Martin Luther King Jr on the flyer. This event is described as a trap skeet and sporting clay shooting event scheduled on Martin Luther King Day. The Air Force Base has been advertising this even since December 28, 2015. Blackout for Human Rights will be hosting “MLK Now” on MLK day, a special event to celebrate and honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and explore how his message and vision continue to resonate in today’s racial, social and political landscape. The event will feature some of MLK’s historic speeches, performed by notable names like Chris Rock, J. Cole, Michael B. Jordan, Octavia Spencer, Anika Noni Rose, Tessa Thompson and many more. The event is happening Monday, January 18 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Riverside Church (South Hall) in NYC. It’s free for all, but you must register for tickets here. This is such a great way to honor MLK’s legacy!
