What!? Ohio School Bans Braids And Afro Puff For New Dress Code
Just when we were starting to love our natural hair and all that it can do, a blow to the foundation of that love is dealt. The Horizon Science Academy in Ohio is banning “Afro-puffs and small twisted braids with or without rubberbands” as part of their newest dress code. A letter was sent out to parents stating as much and the natural hair community is up in arms and rightfully so. Read more after the jump……..
U.S. Airways Force Two African Americans To Change Clothes Before Boarding The Plane
Miles and MacCraig Warren were a bit baffled when a U.S. Airways employee told MacCraig to remove his baseball cap and telling Miles to change into a button-up shirt, nicer shoes and slacks. They were told that this was the policy if they were to fly First Class on the plane, however when they boarded the plane they saw two other passengers, one caucasian, the other Filipino wearing the same hooded sweatshirt and jeans they were told they could not wear. The Warren brothers were traveling back home from Denver to Los Angeles after a relatives funeral, and they did not want any trouble so they adhered to the policy. Their lawyer Rodney Diggs told the New York Daily News, “They were very upset when they saw the other two gentlemen sitting right across from them… This is definitely racial discrimination and a violation of their civil rights.” The brothers filed a lawsuit against the airline seeking punitive damages for discrimination and emotional distress. Deng, who is originally from the South Sudan and was making his first All-Star appearance, said he decided to wear the shirt in order to inspire young kids from his native land.

With airlines kicking passengers off of their flight for all different reasons now-a-days, passengers have asked all airlines for a written dress code. Most airlines haven’t published an established dress code, yet escort passengers from flights for baggy pants, short shorts, and more. FlyersRights.org and other organizations have made their sensible plea to the airline companies now we just have to wait and see if they come through with a dress code.
