(Photos) Hmm…Has Rick Ross Left Def Jam For Epic Records?

When artists sign a record deal, there is a specified number of albums that they’re required to put out to fulfill the contract. This can vary from artist to artist, depending upon various factors – such as whether the label sees the person/group as having longevity or being just a flash in the pan with a hit single or two – among other things. Often times these deals are pretty iron clad, and the only way to get out of them is by spending a pretty large amount of money. So when artists may be ready to leave (especially ones who signed a deal for a large quantity of albums), sometimes they do things like rush and put out multiple albums in a short period of time…and that may be what happened last year with Rick Ross. In 2014, Rozay gave us TWO albums in less than a year’s span, Mastermind and Hood Billionaire. This brought his tally up to 7 with Def Jam, and that quite possibly fulfilled his contract…as he’s currently posting photos with Epic Records boss L.A. Reid on social media, one with a caption that reads:

“BIG $$$ FLEW IN!! BIG $$$ ON THE TABLE!!SALUTE Mr #LAReid // #EPICRECORDS HEIR TO THE THRONE!! $$$$$!!”

Hmm! Could Epic be Rozay’s new home? He’ll then share a roster with Future, Travi$ Scott and more. Let us know in the comments if you think that’s a good fit!

Bobby Shmurda Wants Off Of Epic Records

While he remains behind bars since being arrested in December along with a handful of other members of his GS9 crew, Bobby Shmurda wants no parts of the label that signed him in 2014, Epic Records. “When I got locked up, I thought they were going to come for me,” Bobby said in a new interview with the NY Times, “but they never came.” While it’s definitely not required of a label to put up money for an incarcerated artist, there are still ways they can show support or at least try to help, but Bobby and his lawyer say Epic has done nothing – despite making plenty of money off of the “Hot N*gga” rapper.

Sylvia Rhone Named President Of Epic Records

A little over a year ago, music mogul Sylvia Rhone announced “Vested In Culture,” her own record label as part of a joint venture with Epic Records. Artists on the roster included Kat Dahlia, Casey Veggies and more, and now the former Universal Records executive and Epic have reached an even bigger deal – Sylvia is now president of the label. In her role, she’ll be working in conjunction with CEO LA Reid, and VIC will remain with them. “I’m honored to have the opportunity to expand my relationship with the talented team and the amazing artists at Epic,” Sylvia said in a statement. “What makes this opportunity different from any other is my partnership with renowned music executive L.A. Reid. I’m looking forward to what I think will be the finest chapter in my career.” Congrats!

(Photos) Uh-Oh…Jeezy’s Not Too Happy With Def Jam! And It Looks Like Another Big Exec Wants To Scoop Him!

Apparently Atlanta rappers are just angry tonight! All I want to do is sleep, but people keep going on rants, and I have to keep reporting them! While Trinidad James was having a mini-meltdown on stage in NYC, Jeezy was venting on Twitter, going in on his label, Def Jam Records, and seemingly being courted by a top exec at another major label. Def Jam has yet to address his concerns, but that’s not going to keep Tha Snowman from speaking on what’s on his mind. Who knows what exactly is going on behind the scenes, but hopefully whatever it is gets fixed so that the fans can get a new album. Check out what Jizzle had to say in the gallery.
