Auto Talk: Audi debuts redesigned five-door A3 Sportback

The five-door version of the Audi A3, the A3 Sportback, has been revealed, and as with its three-door sibling, it won’t be coming to the U.S. We Americans can look forward to our own sedan version of the same car. The third-generation A3 is only a smidge larger dimensionally than the outgoing Sportback, but has dropped up to 198 pounds compared to the previous hatch thanks to increased use of high- and ultra-strength steel and aluminum parts like the hood and fenders. With the 1.4-liter TFSI engine it weighs just 2,657 pounds. The biggest measurement growth is in the wheelbase: the front axle has been moved forward 1.57 inches and the wheelbase overall has grown by 2.28 inches. Funk Flex

But now it looks set to get one more door, as a new report from Car and Driver suggests a second aperture is planned for the left side, bringing the total door count up to a more conventional five. Auto Talk: Volkswagen confirms five-door Up! on its way

For this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, Volkswagen was bent on making a splash with the production version of its long-anticipated Up! city car. But at an expo packed with countless exciting supercars on display, a humble vehicle like the Up! could easily have been overshadowed. So VW didn’t just bring one car, it brought a dozen or so – and keeping them fresh was quite an accomplishment when you consider that the production version is only available (initially, at least) in one body style. But that’s about to change. Funk Flex Find Flex On Google+
