(Photos) Celia Cruz Is First Latina To Be Honored At Apollo Theater In NYC!

The late Queen of Salsa, Celia Cruz, is the first Latina to be honored by Harlem’s Apollo Theater. She will join past honorees, such as James Brown, Aretha Franklin, and Michael Jackson, with a plaque outside of the famous landmark. This also marks the 50th anniversary of which Celia Cruz first performed at the Apollo. She died in 2003, at the age of 77 years old. Nas To Be Honored At VIBE’s Second Annual ‘Impact Awards’

Ready to feel old? Illmatic‘s 20th anniversary is this April. 20 YEARS, BRUH! In an homage to the classic album and the iconic rapper responsible for it, VIBE will be honoring Nas at their second annual Impact Awards, a private, invite-only affair going down January 24th in L.A. “[Illmatic is] arguably hip-hop’s most flawless piece of work,” VIBE’s Editor-in-Chief Jermaine Hall said. “Nas’ ability to clearly capture his surroundings in song is a special talent.”
