Hawaii Becomes First State To Raise Smoking Age To 21

Starting today, the new legal smoking age for traditional and electronic cigarettes in Hawaii is 21 (from 18). They’ve now become the first state in the nation to implement this law. Public health officials are hoping that by making it more difficult for young people to get their hands on cigarettes, they will keep them from developing an unhealthy addiction. “In Hawaii, about one in four students in high school try their first cigarette each year, and one in three who get hooked will die prematurely,” said Lola Irvin, administrator with the chronic disease prevention and health promotion division of the Hawaii Department of Health. President Obama Announces Plans for Immediate Action On Immigration Reform

President Obama took to his latest press conference to express his dissatisfaction with the House of Reps and their delay on passing an immigration bill. Obama stated simply “If Congress will not do their jobs, at least we can do ours,” by placing the focus on resources to border enforcement, as well as revamping deportation policies. Uh Oh: Stop-And-Frisk Ruling Is Going To Be Appealed By Who??

So Mayor Bloomberg and his team are not giving up on this stop and frisk law by any means its looking like. The Mayor has already put in motion the appeal of the ruling that was given a few weeks back that ruled against the law because it singled out minorities. Seems like a majority of America is supporting the stand your ground law that has come under review by many Americans after the decision in the Trayvon Martin case. A poll was held this week for registered American voters and a majority of white male voters are supporting the law while black males are against it. Women are divided on the issue.
