NBA: Pelicans Lose Jrue Holiday For the Rest of the Season

The New Orleans Pelicans have been without starting point guard Jrue Holiday for about the last six weeks and Friday came news he won’t be available until next season. Shay Marie Holiday’s stress fracture in his right tibia was not healing well enough, so Friday he had surgery to fix the issue. Since Holiday has been out, head coach Monty Williams has started Brian Roberts at point guard and he will stay in the spot for the duration of the season. “I talked to Brian about that weeks ago that he’s got to step his leadership up and understand the pressure that goes with being the night in, night starter,” Williams told The Times-Picayune. “He’s done a really good job.” Roberts is set to become a free agent in July and he has likely guaranteed a new contract from the Pelicans, which is the right move. The Pelicans are currently 23-35 with the 12th spot in the Western Conference and likely not heading for the playoffs. ESPN
