NBA: Carmelo Anthony Responds to Reports of Phil Jackson Trying to Trade Him

New York Knicks president Phil Jackson is reportedly working hard on putting together a deal to trade Carmelo Anthony.  In a recent meeting between the two of them, Anthony reiterated that he wants to stay with the Knicks and win in New York, but the very short meeting appears to have been just a formality as reports continue to come in about Jackson trying to trade him.

NBA Report: Phil Jackson Determined to Trade Carmelo Anthony; Called These 2 Teams

New York Knicks president Phil Jackson is reportedly determined to trade Carmelo Anthony.  Earlier this month, Anthony responded to an article written by one of Jackson’s former assistants which said it’s time to trade Carmelo.  Anthony responded by saying they should talk if that’s true.  Melo and Phil eventually had that meeting and Jackson asked Anthony if he wanted to stay with the Knicks.  Anthony reaffirmed his commitment to the team, but it was believed that Jackson is committed to trading him.  Yesterday another report came out saying the Knicks tried to trade Anthony to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Kevin Love, but the Cavs rejected the offer.  Apparently, it is true that Jackson is trying to trade Anthony because another report today said he called two other teams.

NBA: LeBron James Responds to Report that Cavs Have ‘No Interest’ in Trade for Carmelo Anthony

LeBron James said the Cleveland Cavaliers need a “playmaker” and he and Carmelo Anthony are close friends, but a report released yesterday said the Cavs passed on the Knicks offer to trade Anthony for Kevin Love.  James is not only the star player, but many consider him the GM of the team, orchestrating and approving all trades, so what did he have to say about passing on Melo?

So there are three things here. 1. Everyone remembers the big hoopla with the Knicks seemingly trying to oust Carmelo Anthony, but in a meeting with president Phil Jackson, Anthony reaffirmed his commitment to the team.  2. LeBron James recently went on an expletive-filled tirade about the Cavaliers needing a playmaker.  3. LeBron and Carmelo are really close friends who want to play together at some point in their careers.  So you put all that together and one would think sending Melo to the Cavs would be a go, but alas it is not.

NBA Report: Phil Jackson Asked Carmelo Anthony if He Wants to Remain a Knick; Anthony Responds

There’s been tension around the New York Knicks lately with talks about trading Carmelo Anthony.  After a report from one of Phil Jackson’s former assistant coaches insisted Anthony be traded.  Anthony, who has a no-trade clause, told reporters that he remains committed to the Knicks and hasn’t thought about a trade but if the front office really feels that way then it’s a conversation that needs to be had.  Well, that conversation happened today.

NBA: Carmelo Anthony Says if Phil Jackson & Knicks Don’t Want Him Then It’s Time to Talk

The New York Knicks lost 116-101 to the Toronto Raptors on Sunday, being down as much as 38 points in the third quarter.  Falling to a 18-23 record, the Knicks are performing way below expectations after what many considered a good offseason with the additions of Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, Brandon Jennings, and Courtney Lee to pair up with rising star Kristaps Porzingis and superstar Carmelo Anthony.  As with another losing season, there are thoughts about the Knicks blowing up the team yet again, and the reports about trading Anthony are on the rise as well.  Up until yesterday, most reports claimed Anthony was unwilling to waive the no-trade clause in his contract, but Sunday night he made a stunning declaration.
