MLB: The Verdict Is In! Yankees Michael Pineda Suspended 10 Games For His Pine Tar Neck

The punishment in this case was swift and severe. Yankees pitcher Michael Pineda was suspended by baseball for ten games after being discovered that he was using pine tar on the mound. Tuesday night in a game against the Red Sox, it was so obvious that Pineda had something on his neck that Boston manager John Farrell pretty much had no choice but to call him and the Yankees out. Pineda did a horrible job of being discreet with the pine tar, which according to most players is an unwritten rule that many pitchers use it they just aren’t in your face with it. Hit the jump.

Dirt? Pine tar? What was that substance on Yankees pitcher Michael Pineda’s hand last night during a game against the Red Sox. Pineda said it was dirt but it damn sure doesn’t look like dirt. Any illegal substance on a pitchers hand is considered automatic grounds for ejection and being suspended. Funny thing was at the end of the game, neither team acted like it was a big deal. Hit the jump.
