(Photos + Video) The Roots & Erykah Badu Bring Out The LOX, Freeway, & YG At The Roots Picnic

Philadelphia’s Penn Landing was turnt all day and night thanks to The Roots Picnic. The 8th annual music festival brought out a clever mix of artists young and old. There were several major moments to remember like A$AP Rocky performing songs off his new album A.L.L.A for the first time and a nostalgic set from Afrika Bambaataa. However, it was Erykah Badu and The Roots who saved the best performance for last. Check out special appearances from The LOX, Freeway, and YG after the jump!

(Photos + Video) Ty Dolla $ign, Jhene Aiko & Raury Perform For vitaminwater x The FADER’s #uncapped Series

On Tuesday night, The FADER and vitaminwater gathered Jhene Aiko, Ty Dolla $ign and newcomer Raury at The Skybox in Philly for their “Hydrate The Hustle” #uncapped series. If there’s a Ty Dolla $ign show in the tri-state area…or better yet anywhere in the U.S. when I don’t have to work…there’s a high chance I’m there, so I most definitely was in Philly goin’ up on a Tuesday. First up was ATL singer Raury, who’s got quite the buzz on the underground, even having caught the attention of Kanye West recently. I hadn’t heard any of Raury’s music until the show, and I must say I was impressed, and I can see why the industry is buzzing about him being the “next big thing.” Backed by a full band and mixed in with high-energy performances of tracks from his recent Indigo Child mixtape, Raury also covered a few Nirvana and Queen songs…definitely winning me over with a childhood favorite of mine, “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
