NBA: Steve Nash Finally Confirms He’s Planning His Retirement

Despite being 40 years old, missing 67 games last season and 32 the year before, Steve Nash still was unwilling to throw in the towel.  He made it quite clear that he’s determined to finish out his contract with the Lakers and since he’s set to make almost $10 million next year, you can see why.  Well it appears next season is finally the end of the road for the veteran point guard.

NBA: Steve Nash On Lakers ‘They Can’t Rely on Me’

The good thing about athletes getting older?  They start getting really honest.  While everyone kept suggesting for Steve Nash to retire he made it quite clear that he’s playing out his contract with the Lakers because he wants all his money.  Nash’s body continues to fail him as each comeback is hit with a setback.  This season was a disappointing one for the Lakers, amongst the worst in franchise history but they’re optimistic about next year.  With the draft and free agency the Lakers can make some improvements but Nash made it clear not to rely on him as parts of that rebuild.

The often injured Steve Nash made it clear that he is not retiring from the NBA because he wants all the money due from his three-year, $27.9 million contract from the Lakers as part of his sign-and-trade from the Phoenix Suns in 2012.  Well with his divorce and child support issues it’s no secret why Nash wants the big bucks to keep coming in and he’s invested in his new dream home for when it’s all over.

Steve Nash turned 40-years old and officially is the oldest player in the league.  That didn’t stop him from hitting young Evan Turner with a behind the back dribble and then nailing the shot.  The Lakers also got the 112-98 win over the 76ers.   Happy Birthday Steve!
