(Video) Ice Cube Speaks Out On Oscar Snub: “I’m Not Surprised”

Earlier this week, Ice Cube stopped by the Wendy Williams Show as part of his press run for his upcoming film,’Ride Along 2′. While sitting down with the gossip queen, Ice Cube opened up about his feelings about the Academy choosing to leave ‘Straight Outta Compton’ off the list of nominees for ‘Best Picture’ despite it’s worldwide success. The N.W.A. icon kept his cool when talking about the snub saying he “can’t be mad.” He continued, “I’m not pissed. I’m not surprised. It’s the Oscars, you know. They do what they do.” Cube did open up about one huge honor N.W.A. will receive this year however; being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. When Williams asked if he would have been disappointed to not have been inducted he said;

“It is nice to be recognized, but N.W.A is anti-establishment so we’re used to people trying to dismiss what we gotta say, used to the industry looking down on us. We were the black sheeps of the industry and we used to it. If we didn’t get nominated, that would be familiar territory.”

‘Straight Outta Compton’ Snubbed For ‘Best Picture’ Oscar Nomination

The Oscar nominations for the 88th Academy Awards were announce Thursday (January 14th) and it has been revealed that ‘Straight Outta Compton’ will not be competing for ‘Best Picture.’ In what’s been called a “stunning move” the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences decided against nominating the film, despite being the highest grossing music biographical picture of all time. This comes as a major blow for the film, especially considering the Academy chose to only nominate eight films for ‘Best Picture’ while there is room for ten. ‘Straight Outta Compton’ was only recognized for ‘Best Original Screenplay’.
