MLB: Tampa Bay Rays Pride Night Raised More Than $300,000 For Victims Of Pulse Nightclub Shooting

The Tampa Bay Rays play their home games about an hour northwest of Orlando but they stepped up in a big way for victims of the pulse nightclub shooting. The team hosted a “pride night” last night and sold tickets for $5 with 100% of the proceeds to go to the victims fund. By the end of the night they had raised well over $300,000 to help as much as they could.

Mariano Rivera is set to retire after this season and several teams have given him gifts when he visits their stadiums.  The Los Angeles Dodgers gave him a specially engraved fishing rod; the San Diego Padres gave him a beach cruiser bike; and the Minnesota Twins chair made of broken bats.  The Tampa Bay Rays however have given him the most interesting gift so far.  Check it out after the jump.

I wish all stories could be as pleasant as this one is. Army Lieutenant Colonel William Adams had been in the Middle East for over a year. During a Tampa Bay Ray’s game last night, his daughter, 9 year old Alayna was at the game with her Mother and brothers. She was picked to throw out the first pitch, which she though was just a random contest. However, little did she know, the Rays and her father were up to something. Sabrina B. The 1979 Tampa Bay Rays had the best uniforms in baseball that year. Alright, the team didn’t really come into existence until 1998, but the hypothetical throwback uniforms they unveiled on Wednesday sure make it look like they would have been.  The team sent out a picture via Twitter that shows manager Joe Maddon modeling the make-believe threads.   The Rays will wear these for their game against the Tigers on June 30th.
