Jay-Z Announces TIDAL Has Reached 1 Million Subscribers Hints At Celebration In Brooklyn Next Month

Jay-Z made a rare Twitter appearance Tuesday to make a very special announcement. Hov announced that despite the backlash and controversy that once loomed like a black cloud over the streaming service, TIDAL has reached 1 million subscribers. This is great news for Jay-Z, who was rumored not too long ago to be trying to get out of TIDAL. Now, it seems Hov’s here for the long haul and to celebrate TIDAL’s platinum status, he hinted at a celebration in Brooklyn next month. Check out the announcement below.

(Photos + Video) TIDAL Says Apple Interfered With Drake’s Performance At Lil’ Weezyana Fest!

Drake decided to join in on Lil Wayne and the Hot Boys reunion at Lil’ Weezyana Fest last night in New Orleans. TIDAL exclusively streamed the legendary event, but experienced some technical difficulties when Drake hit the stage with Wayne. Apparently, Apple wasn’t happy the OVO chief went against their wishes by performing, not one, but three songs at the TIDAL event. Find out what happened after the jump!

Jay Z Puts Together A Second TIDAL Playlist, ‘Summer Sauce 2’

Just before kicking off the summer, Jay Z put together a playlist of his favorite summer tunes for TIDAL, and as we close out the season, he’s back with round two. The Summer Sauce 2 playlist includes himself of course, as well as a ton of Future, Meek Mill and Drake’s now-infamous collab “R.I.C.O.” (guess he’s not choosing sides!), some Bone Thugs and Eazy-E (clearly inspired by Straight Outta Compton,) and more. Check out the full list below!

Prince Explains Why He Still Stands By TIDAL And Why Record Contracts Are Like “Slavery”

Prince has been down for the new streaming service TIDAL from the gate. The outspoken artist even went as far as to pull his music from all other streaming services. At the time there was not explanation as to why he did so, only a short disclaimer stating,“Prince’s publisher has asked all streaming services to remove his catalog. We have cooperated with the request, and hope to bring his music back as soon as possible.” However, now Prince has finally spoken out about why he chose to go in that direction with his music. Two Additonal Executives Pull Out Of Music Streaming Company; TIDAL

Jay Z continuously hints that there is nothing wrong within the walls of the TIDAL streaming service. However, executives’ quit exits tell another story. Find out more.

Jay Z Reportedly Looking To Get Out Of TIDAL

Apart from exclusive events here and there like a Jay Z B-sides concert and a Rihanna “BBHMM” viewing session, TIDAL hasn’t really done much of anything in the streaming business. Apple has come and totally taken the wind out of them with Apple Music, while Spotify continues to flourish as well. Even Rih’s promise of an exclusive “premiere” of the “BBHMM” music video on the service lasted about an hour before she took it to VEVO, hardly incentivizing any fans to spend their hard-earned coins on it. Needless to say, rumor has it that Jay Z is ready to jump ship. Hits Daily Double reports that TIDAL has cost him millions of his own money so far because he never got the expected funding, he still hasn’t paid the licensing fees to the rights holders, and with the way things are looking for it, it’s unlikely any investors will want to help him right now. And the alleged nail in the coffin? Birdman’s recent lawsuit for copywrite infringement on Lil Wayne’s FWA. Ouch.
