July 18, 2013 is a busy day. Today marks the 41st day that Nelson Mandela has been in the hospital. In addition to that is Mandela’s 95th birthday, his 15 year anniversary to wife, Graca Machel as well as Nelson Mandela International Day. A new United Nations study has found that more people around the world have access to a cellphone than to a working toilet. The United Nations revealed that six billion of the world’s seven billion people have cell phones and yet only 4.5 billion have access to toilets. They are now on a quest to fix the sanitation conditions for the 2.5 billion people who don’t have toilets.
Israel OK’s Construction On West Bank Settlement
The United Nations recognized Palestine Thursday as a non-member observing state in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. In almost direct defiance of the United Nation’s recognition of Palestine, Israel plans to build housing settlements on the West Bank, and other areas that should be considered under Palestinian control. Israeli Officials were against the recognition of Palestine and maintain that any negotiation between the two parties would need to come with pre-conditions.
