The Boston University center that studies brain injuries to professional athletes says it will release the findings on former NFL player Dave Duerson on Monday.

Duerson committed suicide at the age of 50 in February, shooting himself in the chest to preserve his brain for the study.

The brain was examined by the Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy at the B.U. School of Medicine.

A third-round pick by the Chicago Bears out of Notre Dame, Duerson was a starting safety on the 1985 team that won the Super Bowl. He went to four Pro Bowls from 1986 to1989 and another Super Bowl with the 1990 New York Giants.

But things began to unravel in his personal and professional life after that.
