(DailyNews)–Althea Ricketts struck her son several times at their home in Apopka, a city just north of Orlando, injuring the child’s arms, according to The Orlando Sentinel.
The 62-year-old was arrested Friday after the boy, whose name and age were not released by authorities, ran to a friend’s home after the assault, the newspaper reported.
The beating came after someone told Ricketts about a posting on her son’s Facebook page, police said.
The boy wrote he “broke a glass on purpose and kept a piece to play with it later,” according to Central Florida News 13. He has a history of cutting himself, his mother claimed.
Ricketts told arresting officers the boy had lied to her about having the Facebook profile, and that “hitting a child with a cable is a common way of disciplining kids where she comes from,” The Orlando Sentinel reported.
The mother was charged with aggravated child abuse. She is being held without bail.
She needs to be beat and never able to be around kids… She needs to be in jail there are other ways of talking or disciplining children……. Proven fact the more you hit them the more they resent you and the more they will be scared to talk to you and if they can’t talk to you as their parent who can they trust…….. As a parent your job is to love and protect you child(ren) not abuse and frighten them….
