Free agent running back Chris Jennings, who was released by the New York Jets on Saturday, was arrested after being clocked driving 147 mph in a 65-mph zone in Guernsey County, Ohio, FOX8.com reported Monday.

Jennings, 25, was taken into custody at 8:49 a.m. local time Sunday and also was charged with driving with a suspended license and with having expired plates on his 2004 BMW.

He is due to appear in a Guernsey County court on September 7.

Jennings’ arrest is reminiscent of that of NASCAR star Kyle Busch, who last month lost his driver’s license for 45 days after pleading guilty to speeding and no contest to reckless and careless driving. Busch was clocked at 128 mph in a 45-mph zone in May.

Jennings played nine games with the Cleveland Browns in 2009, including one as a starter, and did not feature in the 2010 season.

He was signed by the Jets in January of this year but was one of the 26 players released by the team Saturday in final roster cuts.
