If you were watching VH1 on Monday, it would’ve been hard to miss the brand new season of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta (watch the episode here, if you missed it). I think everyone can agree that it was pretty ratchet! While most people can write it off as entertainment, the depiction of black women is not sitting too well with a lot of women. The world was just not ready for the eccentric ladies of VH1’s Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta. The women entered 3.6 million homes on Monday night and although the Atlanta women proved to be entertaining, some viewers were so turned off by the women’s antics that an online petition against the reality show was drawn up!

This isn’t the first VH1 show that disgusted viewers. An online petition was also drafted against VH1’s Basketball Wives in hopes of boycotting the original “wives” reality show.

With the introduction of Atlanta’s out-there characters, angry viewers have moved their attention from Basketball to hip-hop! They began their petition stating:

After we made a ruckus about Basketball Wives, sponsors began to pull ads. Well, it’s that time again, folks!

The petition pretty much goes in, claiming that VH1’s reality shows are partaking in the exploitation of all humans, no matter their background.

As we work toward national- and local-level change, let’s tell VH1 and their sponsors (again) why people from a broad range of backgrounds will NOT stand for the exploitation of the lived experiences of people who may not even know they’re being exploited. This isn’t a “Black or White” thing, this is a HUMAN thing…and we should all understand.
