Today, Ford Motor Company produced it’s 350 millionth vehicle! The 350 millionth vehicle was a Ford Focus produced in Rayong, Thailand. “Producing 350 million vehicles is equivalent to producing one vehicle every 10 seconds for our 109-year history. If placed end to end, the vehicles would stretch to the moon and back twice,” said John Fleming, Ford executive vice president of global manufacturing, in a statement.
Ford is passing a big milestone today, its 350 millionth vehicle.
It will be a Ford Focus, which is the world’s best-selling car for the first half of 2012, produced at a factory in Rayong, Thailand.
“Producing 350 million vehicles is equivalent to producing one vehicle every 10 seconds for our 109-year history. If placed end to end, the vehicles would stretch to the moon and back – twice,” said John Fleming, Ford executive vice president of global manufacturing, in a statement.
Ford, quoting IHS Automotive, says the Ford Focus sold 489,616 units in the first half of this year, besting Toyota Corolla at 462,187. The latest Focus is Ford’s bid to produce a vehicle that could be sold in its basic form all around the world. In the past, it produced two Focuses — one for Europe and one for the U.S.
It’s only fitting that the 350 millionth Ford would be produced in Asia, where Ford is opening nine new plants, including six in China. Just last week, CEO Alan Mulally was in China announcing new plants there in a big bid for growth.
