It is not clear if the project will be a feature film or a cable movie, and no report has been made on if former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky will be mentioned. Sandusky is currently awaiting sentencing after being found guilty on 45 sexual abuse charges.

The package will be build around former Sports Illustrated writer Joe Posnanski’s biography Paterno, which is now atop The New York Times Bestseller List in its second week. Pacino’s manager, Rick Nicita, will produce.

Pacino is no stranger to playing football coaches or starring in biopics.  He played a head football coach in the Oliver Stone’s Any Given Sunday, and he also played Jack Kevorkian in the HBO film You Don’t Know Jack.
