I would have loved to bid on Jackie Robinson’s glove, but there’s no way in the world I would have even came close to what it was just auctioned off for!  Such a great piece of history.

A Jackie Robinson-used baseball glove, believed to have been used in the 1955 and ’56 World Series, sold for $373,002 in an auction that ended Monday.

The auction was run by New York-based Steiner Sports.

Despite the buzz surrounding the recently released film “42” about Robinson’s life story, the glove didn’t break a record for the highest figure paid for a glove at auction.

That distinction belongs to a glove that was advertised as the last that Lou Gehrig used, which went for $387,500 in the Sotheby’s auction of the collection of famed collector Barry Halper in 1999.

Since then, its story has been questioned. Another glove that is believed to have been Gehrig’s last resides in the Hall of Fame.

A bat believed to have been used by Robinson in 1956, his final season, sold for $114,000.

The Steiner Sports auction also included Mickey Mantle’s 1960 contract with the New York Yankees for $60,000; the contract sold for $39,930. Proceeds from this item will go to Hurricane Sandy relief, split equally between those affected in New York and New Jersey.
