IFWT_Subway

Historical footage shows why New York’s subways are one of the world’s oldest transportation systems. Today, millions of people travel by way of the subway –and that’s in New York, alone. But, of course, it had to start somewhere. 108 years ago, to be exact. Hit the jump to see for yourself.

According to Daily News:

Filmed in 1905 — one year after the Interborough Rapid Transit Company’s construction — the astonishing video follows an IRT subway car as it travels underground from Union Square to the old Grand Central station.

Remarkably still, the 5-minute video captures the same route and subway stops taken by the 6 train today up until its final stop at the 42nd St. station.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Almost everything is still in tact, aside from the wardrobe.
