Hopefully, by now you’ve heard of Oprah’s infamous encounter with an Italian shopkeeper in Switzerland who told her that a $38,000 Tom Ford bag was “too expensive” for her. In response, the shop owner of Trois Pommes issued an apology to Oprah and all that were affected. Now, the Italian woman is speaking out, claiming that it was all just a misunderstanding that had nothing to do with race. Check out her account of what happened in her own words after the jump.

In an interview, the Italian woman went on to say that [she] “simply told her that it was like the one I held in my hand, only much more expensive, and that I could show her similar bags. It is absolutely not true that I declined to show her the bag on racist grounds. I even asked her if she wanted to look at the bag. She looked around the store again but didn’t say anything else. Then she went with her companion to the lower floor. My colleague saw them to the door. They were not even in the store for five minutes. … I surely did not intentionally want to insult Ms. Winfrey. I hope this nightmare ends soon.”

Based on Oprah’s initial version, it could have been a misunderstanding. What do you think?
