NBA basketball player Tracy McGrady of Detroit Pistons gestures to his fans at a stadium during a promotional event of his China tour in Hefei

It appears that Tracy McGrady may not be done with his athletic career. No, we shouldn’t expect to see T-Mac back on the hardwood. Instead, he may be throwing balls at wooden bats.

“Seven-time Cy Young Award winner Roger Clemens, who is a special assistant with the Astros, has worked with McGrady on his pitching,” Jose De Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle wrote. “Former Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy told a television audience on Friday night that his ‘sources’ tell him McGrady is throwing 90-mph and is likely to pitch for an independent team.”

He added that “Clemens has strong ties to the Sugar Land Skeeters,” though it sounds like T-Mac isn’t quite ready to perform at that level of competition.

“He’s not there yet,” Clemens said via text. “(He) needs more time and needs to react to live hitters and balls coming back (toward) him.”

McGrady retired from basketball in August and will turn 35 in May.
