“Who runs the world? Girls!” Today is International Women’s Day. Each year International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8. This year’s theme for InternationalWomensDay.com is “Inspiring Change.”

This year’s theme is “Inspiring Change.” According to the website, the theme “calls for challenging the status quo for women’s equality and vigilance inspiring positive change; and encourages advocacy for women’s advancement everywhere in every way.”

The United Nations declares the annual theme each year, and first recognized the day in 1975, yet the first International Women’s Day was held in 1911.

Each year, thousands of events are held by various organizations, governments, charities, educational institutions, women’s groups, corporations and the media to commemorate the day.
