Pharrell caught a major wave of new fans after his hit “Happy” was nominated for an Oscar. It’s eye-opening, especially if you’ve watched his career grow. But what could be even more eye-opening is the fact that he was the second pick for the song. It was originally supposed to be for CeeLo Green but after recording it, his label rejected it. That’s like picking Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan. And we all know how that turned out. Now, hit the jump to hear CeeLo’s reaction.

When caught up to by TMZ reporters, Green was asked if he regretted not releasing the song. CeeLo responded, “No, no, no. Not regret.”

They also asked Green about Pharrell’s comments about his version, where Skateboard P claimed that “[CeeLo’s] version burns his version.”

CeeLo responded with “I won’t say that. That’s him being modest. I appreciate that. I respect that. He’s a generous brother. I think karma is rewarding him because he was all prepared to give all that away. The fact that it’s worked so immensely well for him is very gratifying for the both of us.”
