The LAPD has copped themselves a brand new $15,000 military-grade electric motorcycle and this thing is sleek. The motorcycle, called a Zero MMX, was purchased as part of a pilot project which if all goes well will lead to the police department purchasing more. The Zero MMX is soundless, fast and cost effective with it costing less than 50 cents to fully charge. Check out some photos and a video of the test drive after the jump!

The MMX, which is not available for civilians, allows officers to zip along park trails and through building alleys without being heard. Not only that, but they are also good for the environment.

“There are major benefits to incorporating these environmentally friendly motorcycles. It costs less than 50 cents to charge compared to using gallons of gas, maintenance is simple, and the community appreciates how quiet they are,” Officer Steve Carbajal of the L.A.P.D. Off-Road Unit said in a statement announcing the purchase. “Most importantly, our officers have an added tactical advantage while on patrol.”
