I am surprised more athletes don’t leave twitter considering the level of ignorance some fans are able to portray towards them while hiding behind 140 characters. Baltimore Ravens star wideout, Steve Smith has had enough of the social media giant and will no longer be using it. The reason behind his decision? Smith feels eventually he is going to wind up trying to kill someone based off comments on his feed! Hit the jump.

Steve Smith acknowledged that criticism was a major reason why he decided to stop using his social media account.

“I’d kill you on Twitter, so I had to stop,” he said. “Somebody said something inappropriate to me, my wife said I wasn’t being a very good example for my kids.”

“At the end of the day, what’s on my Twitter feed and what’s going on with the world, I don’t think that should be on the same level,” Smith said.

Smith also took a shot at the lames who talk gangsta online to him, but wouldn’t dare do so in person.

“Internet courage is like a Cover 2 corner,” Smith said. “When you got safety over the top, you feel better about yourself.”

He knows people are going to say whatever they want, but he is just choosing to ignore it all and this is the best way he feels fit to do so.
