The casual fan may not know who Robert Swift is, but if you are a basketball junkie you know his story is one of many that had great potential but couldn’t stay on track. When Swift was drafted in the first round by the Seattle Sonics fresh out of high school in 2004 he was one of the more highly touted prospects. It was soon apparent though that Swift had some demons in his life and drugs pretty much derailed his career. Last year he was arrested for squatting in a home even though he made more than $11 million from his short playing days. Now he has much bigger legal problems.

A former NBA player has been charged with a crime after a police raid on the house of an alleged drug-dealer where he was staying uncovered heroin, meth, guns, a grenade launcher and several prostitutes.

Robert Swift, 28, who joined the Seattle Sonics straight out of high school, has been described as a ’heavily armed heroin addict’ by prosecutors in King Country, Washington.

Police raided the property last month, and seized a number of weapons from Swift’s bedroom, including a military-style grenade launcher and sawed-off shotgun.

On Thursday, Swift was charged Thursday with unlawful possession of a short-barreled shotgun, after police found seven firearms on or under his bed and a 40mm grenade launcher in a safe in his room, in addition to the sawed-off shotgun.

Swift had some pretty serious weapons and who knows if he had eventual plans to use them so it is definitely good that they are off the street, especially with him seemingly being mentally unstable. His story is sad because the kid had real talent and could of been something special paired with a young Kevin Durant who would join the franchise a couple seasons later before the team move to OKC.
