Based on new laws form the Justice Department, certain Native American lands have landed the OK to grow and distribute marijuana.

Storm

Recently the United States has gone through new state laws. In places like the state of Washington, Oregon and Colorado recreational marijuana has been legalized by the state. This has raised an opportunity along with many questions for Native American Community. According to law Native Americans would be able to grow and sell marijuana on reservations that are considered sovereign nations. This would obviously only take place where state law deem the plant legal. Some tribes could be looking at a serious profit margin if they decide to follow through. However only 3 of the 556 federally recognized reservations have shown interest in such business. Don Gentry, the Chairman of the Klamath Tribes in Oregon stated ” We have an alcohol and drug free policy at work, It would just not be something we were looking for into the future”. As a whole it seems Native Americans are acting very cautious and who could blame them. Recently the Yakama Nation in Washington has banned marijuana on their reservations, further reports indicate that the nation is even trying to halt state regulated pot fields on lands that they have fishing and hunting rights too. Marijuana culture is in fact growing immensely by the year. With a new state each year legalizing recreational use its interesting to see how the cookie will crumble. If any one of the Native American tribes see through and start growing and selling marijuana they could provide a blueprint for legal success.
